365, Day 4: It’s Not Over Til the Fat Lady Sings

365, Day 4

Still painting. But also working on Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ 40th Season. On May 23, we had our first opening night performance. Got all dressed up ‘n stuff, too. This week we continue with The Barber of Seville and open La Rondine. If you’re in the neighborhood, come by and get in on the fun.

I don’t know much about opera, really. I’m new to it all. I don’t know why it is that opera singers, female ones in particular, are reputed to be fat. I have to say our singers for the 2015 season don’t fit the stereotype.

And as for the mysterious and baffling expression, “Toi, toi, toi!” that I’ve heard bandied about…well, like any good mysterious tradition, there are multiple “origin myths” that appeal to the anthropologist in me. Here’s a nice little explanation.
