365, Day 22

365, Day 22

Playing with two colors, water and rubbing alcohol which I managed to spill on the paper on the left side of the design area. It has locked the outer pencil border into the paper and appears as a slightly visible partial halo around the painting. I have decided to just accept all of this and leave it as it is, a part of the story of the painting.

As for the painting, sometimes I think space nebulae, sometimes origami paper. Sometimes I just think of watercolors and what it is that watercolors do and try to leave it at that. It is interesting to me that, when I paint in larger format, I never use the entire area as I have done frequently with these small pieces. Most of what I’ve done are botanical pieces and I’m used to having a lot of white space around the subject. The notion of filling the entire paper with a painting has been intimidating but this practice, for one reason or another, has encouraged me to give it a try.
