365, Day 24: Poppies

365, Day 24

I have seen poppies blooming in a number of locations where I don’t remember them blooming before. They make me think of the garden I used to have, in a previous life, when I began the process of breaking out of my old life by putting in a large, old-fashioned flower border that included poppies and larkspur. When they were in bloom, the garden looked very Monet-ish. I loved the poppies and larkspur; they reseeded readily so, once I got them started, they were reliable figures in the border.

Poppies, all varieties, are beautiful to me. The delicacy of the petals, the fluffy black stamens, the structural elements of the flowers and seed pods and, of course, the colors, are all marvelous. I miss them.
