I spent the first part of July traveling and, although I’ve been painting, I haven’t been scanning and posting. This gives me an odd sense of having read ahead in a book when I do get around to posting. On this particular day in the morning, calm and relative peace reigned. By the next morning, well, we’ll get to that.
I painted this little landscape using the delightful mini-palette created my friend Martha Kelly. The greens, in particular, were fun to work with and I had to do without my go-to Payne’s Gray for shadowing. When I finished the painting, something seemed to be missing and I thought to myself, “Just add birds.”
So I did. I’m finding birds feel they need to be present in a lot of what I’m painting in one way or another.
