365, Day 52: Out of the Blue

365, Day 52

Remember yesterday’s “Black Hole” post? This one seemed headed in a similar direction but it took a turn. Or we took a turn. Or…

I swear, the heart appeared here “on its own”. All I did was enhance it once I saw it. I was struck, at the time I was painting it, at the sense of transformation between the previous day’s painting and this one….One of the things I love about watercolors is the serendipitous nature of the medium. And one of the reasons I chose painting as a spiritual practice is that, through the paint, through the images, I see and hear so differently than I might otherwise.

If you believe such things, and I admit to struggling with beliefs right now, God (or Spirit or however you choose to language the concept) speaks through everything. And I suppose, everyone. I chose to at least be bemused by the appearance of this little heart today and it held out a bit of hope in an otherwise darkish sort of time.
