365, Day 62: Clouds

365, Day 62“I could never be with someone who liked Joni Mitchell. ‘It’s clouds illusions I recall, I really don’t know clouds at all.’ What does that mean? Is she a pilot? Is she taking flying lessons? It’s probably a metaphor for something, but I don’t know what.” ~ Joe Fox, “You’ve Got Mail”

I love clouds. But I have to say I’m not a terribly huge fan of Joni Mitchell. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never given her a chance. But I always loved this bit from “You’ve Got Mail.”

This painting is a very delicate. It works in person but was a challenge to scan and post. This color (cobalt teal, I believe) is captivating. It makes me think of lying on a grassy hillside staring up at the sky, watching the delicate wisps and puffs of clouds come and go. It makes me think of how much I’d love to be able to just lose myself like a kid in the sense that I had nothing more important to do and nowhere else to be other than home in time for dinner. Which someone nice would have waiting for me. At this point in my life, this is a fantasy. But I can dream. And paint.
