365, Day 136: Resistence

365, Day 136

There are days when I sit down to paint with an image, or at least the strong suggestion of an image, clear in my mind. And I resist.

No. I am not going to paint that. Not again. I’ve already painted that scene. No.

And I begin to paint something else that, of course, doesn’t work out. And so I set it aside and begin again. I get out of the way and let what is inside flow out. In the process I realize yet again that I can never paint the same scene twice…
