365, Day 195: Thorns & Snow

365_195

Again, I don’t know where this came from. We hadn’t had any snow at this point in the winter. But, again, these things happen…

365, Day 194: Shorelines & Safe Harbor

365_194

I don’t know where this shoreline and gentle blue water came from on the cold, early December morning when it appeared. These things happen, however, and I tend not to question them too intently.

365, Day 193: What Can We Do Together?

365_193

I remember painting this one and not feeling particularly inspired. The brush I picked up lends itself more to stamping in dry brush details than it does to the more fluid way I’m finding I prefer to paint but, some days, I don’t feel fluid. It’s interesting to just pick up a brush and ask, ok, what can you do? What can we do together?

365, Day 192: Frosty Morning

365_192

This was another image that was inspired by the frosty winter morning and by the choice of brush. Never let yourself think that a paintbrush is an inanimate object in the process of creation.

365, Day 191: Inspiration

365_191

Winter landscape. Sometimes, the inspiration is simply picking up a different brush and asking it, what shall we do?

365, Day 190: Canopy, Revisited

365_190

This was another “lift above the treetops” morning. Summer in November.

365, Day 189: Showing Up

365_189

Some days, I just go through the motions. Draw the circle, pick up the paint brush. Let it find the water and a pigment…there is often absolutely no idea in my head of what I’m going to do even as I do it. And I just figure that’s going to have to be ok.

Viewed in a timeline sort of way, it’s interesting to see the flow of images and compositions. They expand, they contract. Some are really blue. A lot are really blue…and a lot seem to be about trees.

No birds in this image, either. I remember this one. No birds. Nope. They just didn’t have it in them to show up. Some days are like that, too.

365, Day 188: Waves

365_188

I remember, when I painted this, things were pretty tense. Thanksgiving break and so much to do it was hard to relax.

365, Day 187: Touched by Fire

365_187

This was painted on one of those November mornings when the sunrise in the frosty morning lit the landscape with fire.

365, Day 186: Spiral Dance

365_186

This was one of those days when a word suggested itself as I painted and the image that resulted totally disappointed me. But it’s also just one of those days when I was reminded that this was about showing up. And I did.
